Lab MGM invited Tokopedia UX Designer Labina Kirby to open its 2022 Interaction Design guest lecture series, sharing her design career journey with FILKOM students.

In February 2022, Lab MGM, the Media, Game, and Mobile Technology Laboratory at Fakultas Ilmu Komputer, Universitas Brawijaya, invited Labina Kirby, a UX Designer at Tokopedia, to open its Webinar Series on Interaction Design, a guest lecture program built around FILKOM alumni working in industry.
Kirby, a 2015 graduate of FILKOM's Information Systems program, joined the session on February 11, 2022, alongside Faisal Risq Efendy, a Product Designer at tiket.com. Around 180 students attended the online talk, titled Road to Product (UX) Designer: Building Your Design Career Journey, moderated by faculty member Hanifah Muslimah Az-zahra. That turnout made it the best attended session of the four Lab MGM would go on to run that year. The two spoke about moving from a computer science degree into working UX design roles at Indonesian technology companies.
As with the rest of the series, Kirby took part as an individual invited guest, sharing her own career experience rather than representing any formal arrangement between Tokopedia and Lab MGM. She told students that critical thinking and a creative mindset matter as much as technical skill for anyone hoping to work in UX design, describing the daily work of solving usability problems and collaborating across product, engineering, and business teams.

Tokopedia is an Indonesian e-commerce platform connecting merchants with buyers across the country. For FILKOM students weighing where a computer science degree might lead, hearing from an alumna who had made that jump gave the opening session of the series a concrete, personal starting point.

Kirby's talk set the tone for a four part series that Lab MGM ran through much of 2022. The sessions that followed covered UX strategy from an industry perspective, emotional design, and basic AI for game and user interaction, with each guest invited individually and a certificate offered to students who registered and attended.
