On February 11, 2022, Lab MGM, the Media, Game, and Mobile Technology Laboratory at Fakultas Ilmu Komputer, Universitas Brawijaya, welcomed Faisal Risq Efendy, a Product Designer at tiket.com, as a guest speaker in its Webinar Series on Interaction Design, a guest lecture program built around FILKOM alumni working in industry.

Efendy, a 2016 graduate of FILKOM's Informatics Engineering program, appeared alongside Labina Kirby, a UX Designer at Tokopedia, for the series' opening session, Road to Product (UX) Designer: Building Your Design Career Journey. Around 180 students joined the online event over Zoom, moderated by faculty member Hanifah Muslimah Az-zahra, making it the best attended of the four sessions Lab MGM would run that year.

What the Session Covered

Efendy took part as an individual alumnus invited to share his own professional path. He told students that networking matters from the very start of a career, encouraging them to use competitions, internships, and research projects to build experience and professional connections while still studying. He walked through his own route from a computer science degree at FILKOM to product design work at an Indonesian online travel platform that handles flight, train, and hotel bookings.

His participation gave students a second, contrasting view of what a design career can look like outside e-commerce, in a company built around travel rather than retail. The session closed with a question and answer segment where students asked both speakers about portfolios, interviews, and the move from student projects to product work.

Efendy's talk was the first of four sessions Lab MGM ran across 2022 under the same series, each pairing new invited guests with new topics: UX strategy from an industry perspective, emotional design, and basic AI for game and user interaction followed over the rest of the year, with certificates made available to students who registered and attended.
