A Ritsumeikan doctoral student and FILKOM alumnus gave a guest lecture in 2022, and separately coauthored a paper with Universitas Brawijaya researchers.

In July 2022, a graduate of the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya, returned to speak to his old campus, though by then he was studying on the other side of the world.
Mury Fajar Dewantoro finished his degree at FILKOM UB in 2010 and went on to pursue a doctorate at Ritsumeikan University in Japan. On 5 July 2022, FILKOM invited him back as the speaker for the fourth session of its Interaction Design webinar series, a recurring lineup of sessions on interface and interaction topics aimed at students. Dewantoro walked the audience through how games give non-player characters believable, responsive behavior, and how that behavior shapes the way a player experiences the game. His listed research interests at Ritsumeikan include procedural content generation, the practice of having software produce game content automatically rather than by hand. The session was a single guest lecture arranged by the faculty, not a cooperation agreement between the two universities.
Dewantoro also turns up as a coauthor on a paper unrelated to that lecture. Titled TOPSIS for Mobile Based Group and Personal Decision Support System, it was published in the journal Register: Jurnal Ilmiah Teknologi Sistem Informasi in February 2021. TOPSIS, short for Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution, is a ranking method the paper uses to build personal and group travel recommendations for tourists visiting Malang. His coauthors, Ratih Kartika Dewi, Eriq Muhammad Adams Jonemaro, Agi Putra Kharisma, and Najla Alia Farah, are Universitas Brawijaya researchers, and the paper is listed among Lab MGM's publications.

Put together, the two threads describe the same kind of link: individual researchers crossing paths through study abroad, a shared paper, and one invited talk, rather than any formal arrangement between Ritsumeikan University and Universitas Brawijaya. FILKOM UB keeps this kind of connection alive by inviting its own graduates to share what they are learning once they move on to universities elsewhere, and Dewantoro's 2022 session is one small example of that practice.
